Yves Saint Laurent’s Spring/Summer 2011 collection shown at Paris / Milan Fashion Week showcases some of the best garments across the season. Hidden button shirts in taupes and natural tones in combination with dark stone collars and exaggerated thigh-flare shorts created a flawless 1940’s atmosphere. The structure of the range wonderfully dressed with perhaps the signature addition of the cummerbund and enforced waistbands. The inclusion of these waistbands is key to the collection, along with the military headpieces, and confidently addressing YSL’s approach to next summer, masculine/feminine tailoring . Creative director Stefano Pilati has again shown the delicacy by which tailoring can highlight and structure without domination, the range is focussed, accurate and accessible.
